Pool Construction

Pool Construction

Think possibilities when it comes to building your pool. Explore the newest technology and the hottest designs. Consider techniques that add unique architectural elements and flare. Want to know more about what goes into building an inground concrete pool? The following is an overview of the many things California Waterscapes will do during your in-ground concrete pool construction.

Phase1-Fencing

If fence removal is done by California Waterscapes, it will be scheduled at the time of excavation. If removal is through you, please notify us upon completion so that excavation can be scheduled.

Phase2-Layout

The outline of the swimming pool will be spray painted on the ground according to the design. Any alterations to the placement of the pool or spa in your yard will be handled at this point to ensure that you will be completely delighted with the final installation.

Phase3-Excavation

Pool is excavated and laid out 6" larger than the finished dimensions in all directions. Forming material will be placed around the excavation of your pool or spa. This feature is to ensure a 6"x12" bond beam. Removal of dirt will be done the day of excavation at which point you can request dirt to be left at the job site for additional landscaping projects.

Phase4-Plumbing & Equipment

At this time pool equipment will be set and placed per plan. If you are unsure of the location of the equipment set this will be the time to work out the ideal location.

Phase5-Steel

3/8" diameter steel reinforcing rebar is placed throughout the pool structure. Concrete spacers insure the steel is not against the wall or the floor of the pool. This system allows the shell material to be evenly distributed under and above the steel. Our pools are professionally engineered to insure the structural integrity for the life of the pool.

Phase6-Electric

All of our electric wiring and grounding will meet or exceed National Electric Code standards. Ground fault interrupter devices will be installed for protection against electric fault.

Phase8-Shotcrete

At this point the shell material either Shotcrete or gunnite is applied to create the pool shell.

Swimming Pool Grotto

Phase9-Waterfall & Boulder

If you have purchased a natural rock water feature or natural boulders they will be installed at this time. Also if you have purchased an Artificial Grotto with or without a slide, it will be built at this time as well. Please keep in mind that an Artificial Grotto with or without a slide will take approximately 5 days to build and no other phases can be done at this time.

Phase10-Coping and Pavers

All coping around pool will be paver brick coping selected from our  standard colors and will be 2 5/8 inches thick, 4 inches wide each, and 12 inches long.  All the paver deck around the pool will be selected from California Waterscapes standard types, patterns, and colors. If you want to make changes to the paver deck design, they must be prior to coping.

Phase11-Tile

One row of 6"x 6" decorative tile will be installed around the pool perimeter. All pool tile is frost proof and designed for swimming pools. If you wish to upgrade your tile selection, please make arrangements to do this prior to plumbing phase.

Phase13-Clean-Up

Both the interior and the exterior will be cleaned up at this time. California Waterscapes will remove all pool construction related debris and fill in tire tracks in access area. Clean-up is in preparation for the plastering phase and will be coordinated near the plaster date.

Phase14-Fencing

If replacement of the fence is by California Waterscapes , it will be scheduled after the clean-up is complete. If replacement is by you, please call us upon completion.
IMPORTANT – YOU MUST HAVE A SELF-CLOSING, SELF-LATCHING GATE ON YOUR FENCE IN ORDER TO PASS A PRE-PLASTER INSPECTION. IF YOU HAVE DOUBLE GATE, IT MUST HAVE A LOCK ON IT. IF THE DOUBLE GATE IS THE ONLY ACCESS TO THE BACKYARD, ONE SIDE MUST BE SELF-CLOSING AND SELF-LATCHING AND THE OTHER SIDE MUST LOCK DOWN IN TO THE GROUND. ALL GATES MUST OPEN OUTWARD. IMPORTANT NOTE: NOT ALL CITIES MAY NOT FOLLOW THE SAME CRITERIA FOR POOL BARRIER REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH YOUR CITY'S REQUIREMENTS.

Phase15-Pre-Plaster Inspection

This inspection by the City will require that all the barrier requirements be met prior to scheduling. Someone will need to be present at the inspection so that the city may confirm that the requirements in the house are met and approved. Please call us with the results of this inspection, as it will be helpful in moving the construction along without delays.

Phase16-Interior Finish

PLASTER – Two coats pneumatically applied white marble dust and white cement. Plaster is hand troweled to a non-slip waterproof surface. Once the plaster is complete, the crew will begin filling the pool and/or spa and you must have a hose available for them.  DO NOT TURN OFF THE WATER WHILE FILLING YOUR POOL (bath tub ring may result). Fill your pool approximately half way up the skimmer. DO NOT STOP FILLING UNTIL POOL IS FULL!!! PEBBLE TEC – This is a two day process. The first day the Pebble Tec will be shot onto shell of the pool, the second day they will return and acid wash the pool. The water will start filling immediately. There will be a slurry pit left in your yard for about three days, it needs to sit and harden and will be removed at that time.

Swimming Pool Construction Start Up

Phase17-Start-Up

When pool is complete and filled to the proper level, we will start your pool up. At this time we will start all the equipment and install the cleaning system. The explanation and demonstration will take approximately one hour. It is important that someone is home to receive the instructions.
