Why Landscape Design?

Many homeowners today decide that they want to do something with their yard. So they go out to one of the home improvement centers, and buy some plants. They buy a couple shovels, other tools and some plant food. Then it's back to the house and a weekend or two working in the yard.

But often that yard project doesn't go quite as well as planned. Not knowing a lot about the various types of plants, the homeowner might find that the plants shriveled up in the hot summer sun, or a variety of other problems could arise.

This is where a landscape designer can be a big help. A landscape designer is extremely knowledgeable about various plants, which ones will work in our Southern California climate, which ones will grow well in direct sunlight, which ones need shade and so on.

A landscape designer can also help you in other ways. He or she can help you determine the best place for everything that you want to put in your yard, with an eye towards functionality. By functionality in this case I mean how do you interact with the various items in your yard, such as a patio, a pond, a barbecue, gardens, a pool, gazebo, or playground areas. By considering how you interact with your various yard elements or planned elements (viewing, accessing, using, etc.), the designer can help you figure out the best placement of each item.

Landscape Design Packages

The Pacific Outdoor Living design Center has three full time landscape designers to help you turn your ordinary yard into an outdoor work of art. Here are the several options you can choose:

Option 1: Conceptual Design
The customer makes an appointment with the designer for a minimum of one hour at $75 in the Design Center or at $150 on location. It is a good idea for the customer to have any pictures, measurements, and inspirational material they may need to communicate their wants and needs. This will provide the designer with a clear view of the customers goals so they can work together to sketch out a conceptual idea.

Option 2: Design by the Hour – Professional Measurements and Photos
An appointment will be made to have the property measured and photographed. The customer will then spend time with the designer on an hourly basis to design the landscape. This option starts at $575, which includes the base plan drawing showing the property’s current status, and by hour of design time, each additional hour is $75. This is a perfect option for those people who have a good idea of what they want and can clearly express their ideas to the designer. The designer will then render a CAD (Computer Aided Design), base on the amount of hours agreed upon by the customer.

Option 3: Full Landscape Design – Base Plan and Full CAD (Computer Aided Design)
This option includes full measurements, pictures, softscape design, irrigation, and hardscape design, for $3000. After each phase of the design is complete the designer will meet with the customer for approval before moving on to the next phase. The designer will work with the customer’s installation budget and provide the customer with the highest quality of service. (The full landscape design price of $3000 includes a property measurement of 15,000sq ft. or less. The $150 consultation fee is included in this option.)
