Excellent article, and beautiful picture. The unique thing about backyard ponds is that they really do need to be custom designed to fit well into the overall landscape. You want the end result to look like it belongs, not like it was just purchased at the local home improvement store and plunked down wherever it would fit. Experience is the only guarantee for this.

But...the mental, emotional, and even spiritual benefits of having such a place cannot possibly be overstated.

I enjoyed the post and strongly support having Koi pond plants for a variety of reasons. I believe the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to having plants in a Koi pond.

I enjoyed reading your post! I am a bit confused about the pond placement however. I have always thought it was good to have some shade around the pond as too much sunlight can cause algae to proliferate. Any further info on this aspect of pond placement would be appreciated.

A nice post about maintenance reminders. Particularly interesting fact about the algae in the pond. I didn't realize it made the water more acidic!
